Curls
I get asked a lot, probably by every curly haired girl that sits in my char, “So, how did you get into cutting curly hair?” The short answer is simply that I love working with it and I can do things with curls and waves that just can’t be done with straight hair. I would rather play with curls all day than work with straight hair. The long version is a bit more deeply rooted – I have never been interested in “traditional” when it comes to much of anything…especially hair. I have cut hair since I was young, but I’ve always cut it dry even though I knew all the stylists out there would wet it down first. For me, I needed to SEE the hair, to see where it waved and coiled or the way it bent and twisted. I prefer seeing hair a little lived in, that way I know where the natural parts or cowlicks are, which allows me to work WITH someone’s hair rather than against it. I want your hair to be easy for you. I want it to look amazing with minimal to no effort. And on the days or nights you really want to make it extra-a little product, some pointers from your favorite youtuber, and your set.
When I attended beauty school, the teachers and the dated curriculum taught me the exact opposite of what came natural to me. I had to follow all the standard routines of wetting down the hair prior to cutting it, I had to learn all the traditional partings, the “proper” elevations, and to pull all the curls straight! I didn’t want those curls straightened out, I wanted them to be bouncy and to have a killer shape! Everything was so unnatural and forced, I hated it. BUT – somehow, I got my license, left all that ancient “traditional” technique behind and picked up right where I left off before I enrolled.
Curly haired girls were always my biggest fans, and I was always theirs. It really isn’t JUST their hair that I love working with, it’s the type of woman that is proud to wear her curls, the bigger the better. There truly is something special about curly girls – and their natural, beautiful, curls are a representation of that special something.
The DEVA CUT is a dry cutting technique that Dusty is Certified in and is specifically designed for curly hair. This haircut is best for people who wear their hair curly most of the time, if not all the time, and people making the transition from straight styling to showing their natural curl.
Curl/Deva Cut and Style
This service starts with a dry cut suited to your specific hair type and is finished with a cleanse, conditioner, styling then dried under heat or by diffuser.
Curl/Deva Cut TO-GO
This service is a dry cut only and is typically for those who’s hair is already feeling hydrated, healthy, and not in need of any major style changes or treatments, and do not have the time for styling and drying. Come in clean, air-dried, and un-altered by hats, hair ties or clips, and we will knock off any dry ends, get your shape back to where it should be, and then let you go.
Deep Conditioning and Curl/Deva Cut
This service takes a different approach to your hair. We will start by an assessment of where your hair strength and hydration levels are, and proceed with a cleansing, detangling, and deep conditioning treatment based on your specific needs. Once we have gotten your hair to the best place we possibly can at that point in time, we will dry you with minimal to no styling products, see the existing shape and definition, then move on to the dry cut and light styling from there.
Deep Conditioning à la carte
This service is a treatment with the intention of revitalizing dry and/or weak curls to the best health that can be expected in a single treatment. We will start by an assessment of where your hair strength and hydration levels are, and proceed with a cleansing, detangling, and deep conditioning treatment based on your specific needs. Once we have gotten your hair to the best place we possibly can at that point in time, we will style and dry you either under heat or by diffuser.
